Carpets from this area of north-eastern Iran are often called ‘Kurdiguchan’ because they are made by Kurdish people. Most of the Kurds live in western Iran but some were forced to move eastwards a long time ago. The rugs they make are generally all-wool and in sizes up to 3 sq m. They are strongly coloured and the designs are a mixture of Kurdish with influence from other tribes such as the Turkmen.
