Sofreh is the Persian word for a tablecloth or, more accurately, an eating cloth, since these were and are made to be laid on the ground for the preparation and eating of food.

Sofrehs may be of square or rectangular format and are kilim woven and display a variety of simple tribal designs. They make attractive wall hangings or may be used as floor mats for bedroom or otherwise light use.
