The passing of artist and musician, Don Van Vliet otherwise known as Captain Beefheart on December 17th 2010 from complications related to multiple sclerosis, will surely inspire a wider reappraisal of a diverse body of work, much of it shrouded in relative obscurity because of its perceived ‘inaccessibility’. His music, poetry, visual art and spoken pronouncements also articulate elements of what can be described as an animist worldview, connoting an inchoate, earth oriented mysticism. This short piece acknowledges these aspects of Van Vliet’s work..

Funny guy, that George W. OK, enough goofing around. Bush also said this, and I share this to encourage my Stepson, who somehow became a bit cynical since the first day I met him when he recounted the entire plot to Eragon by Christopher Paolini while sitting across from me in a booth at Space Aliens cafe (he was so cute telling me all the details of a boy who finds a mysterious stone in the mountains).

I turn right, onto the road that I take to work, diving quickly into the cubbyhole of vending machines for my daily cioccolata calda. I have never seen the street so empty, and though I walk, I feel like dancing down the middle of it. My usual commute is imperilled by cars, buses and bikes, motorised or otherwise, and by fellow pedestrians trying to negotiate a pavement that is more like a tightrope.

No, no, not sexually oriented, for I am not cutting anything off. God forbids! LOL!! I ended up with lots of kitchen knives and choppers for that matter! No wonder my life is in such a shamble.

Ugly concludes with an epilogue that begins: guess you know the rest. But since you probably don we tell you. Among many other things, a major criminal investigation of a crooked sitting vice president is suspended and she is elected president, the first woman to hold the office.

A last glance at the car before exiting showed every beaming face raised, every mouth upturned in a thankful smile.Okay, so I made up that last paragraph. But oh, what I would have given to knock that littlekid out (anesthetically, of course). It was startling, though, to realize that I wouldn have done it only for the sake of my hearing.

A) I think I have always had a strong passion for music. I grew up in a singing family, my parents brought me up to love music the gift of singing that I have. But I realized I want to do this for the rest of my life when I was 11 and I saw our first season of Slovak Idol..
